The maenads were the female followers of Dionysus, the Greek God of wine-making, orchards, fruit, fertility, among other things.  They were said to drink wine and dance themselves into a frenzy, whirling, , drinking wine…with the goal being to achieve a state of ecstasy that would allow their souls to commune with Dionysus.

As a colourway, Maenad is super fun and came about unexpectedly!
I put some skeins in a pan and had a plan…then I went inside the house and got distracted.  Had a couple glasses of wine and then remembered that the pans were live and likely hot.
I returned to my studio and had completely forgotten what I had planned to do….so I grabbed the nearest colours and made up a new colourway!

When a friend came over, she asked about these new lovely skeins and when I told her the story, she said “I love it when you’re drunk!”
THAT almost became the name….but I decided to go with Maenad instead…a similar yet more frenzied inspiration. *wink*

All of my yarns are hand dyed and, as much as I attempt to match, every batch is one-of-a-kind. Be sure to order what you need as matching future batches are not guaranteed.

When using hand-dyed yarns in a project that requires more than one skein, it is strongly recommended to alternate skeins every other row of knitting to even out any differences.

Lastly, as with any hand dyed yarn, please expect minor imperfections and some variation from skein to skein (even within the same batch), as each skein is individually hand painted.
